TNA Goes to Chyna

 

 

In the form of Breaking News, TNA wrestling has agreed to terms with Joanie Laurer (better to known to wrestling fans as Chyna). TNA’s Tuesday Impact! tapings revealed Chyna to be the latest component in the ongoing Kurt Angle/Jeff Jarrett storyline. This feud has been non-stop for the last 8 months and has incorporated actual backstage elements into its storyline; such as the involvement of Karen Jarrett, Kurt Angle’s legitimate ex-wife and Jeff Jarrett’s current bride. Chyna’s roll will be that of Kurt Angle’s mistress, as she will aid Angle in his quest to combat his nemesis by eliminating the ever-present Mrs. Jarrett from the equation. Chyna, who is currently 40 years old; will be making her first mainstream wrestling appearance in a decade; shooting her last televised appearance in the WWE in early 2001. She left the company as the WWE Women’s Champion, having never lost the title. During the height of the Attitude Era in WWE, Chyna was an integral part of one of the most popular factions in WWE history, D-Generation X.

Playing the role of “bodyguard”; she had a hand in much of the success of her DX cohorts. Chyna eventually grew so popular that inevitably she became more than a bodyguard and transitioned into a competitor herself. At a time when WWE was re-introducing the WWE Women’s Championship, Chyna set her sights on a much higher prize; the WWE Championship. She began competing in the ring with the men and set milestones along the way. Chyna became a #1 Contender for the WWE Championship, the 1st Woman to ever compete in a Royal Rumble and the 1st Woman to ever win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Chyna’s popularity reached its pinnacle when she was selected to be in the November 2000 issue of Playboy Magazine.

The culmination of her career came with the eventual accomplishment of winning the WWE Women’s Championship before she decided to walk away from the company. She had decided to retire from wrestling in October of 2004 and focus on television and movies. With Chyna’s unexpected return to the business, fans are clamoring for information and anticipating her television debut. Chyna’s credibility has already made TNA Impact! a “must see” going forward, as the 9th Wonder of the World makes her re-entry into the world professional wrestling.
