Monday Night Raw Review November 9, 2009
We start off with a recap of last weeks Raw Main Event, as JeriShow took out Cena and DX.
Guest Host Ricky Hatton kicks off the show, joined by the Bella Twins. He shows us highlights of a past fight in Sheffield, where he won a world title.
JeriShow interrupts the boxing sensation and not so nicely ask him to leave. Hatton made the obvious Mayweather reference before Big Show gave Hatton the same chance at a free shot.
Right before Hatton was about to tee off on Show, Jericho stopped him. Jericho and Show got into it over their upcoming match at Survivor Series. As they were going back and forth, Hatton cut them off and told them that they would see action, tonight, against DX. This caused an anti-England rant from Jericho, which caused JeriShow to come close to attacking Hatton, but DX comes out to stop the potential carnage.
Triple H ran down JeriShow's past experiences with guest hosts and told Hatton that they would take care of the Unified Tag Team Champs. After Jericho was bumped out of the ring, Show also bailed.
DX and Ricky Hatton had two words for us to end the segment. While not as bad as the NASCAR duo from two weeks ago, Hatton didn't show much promise as a guest host and looked like he would rather be taking a nap than hosting Raw. We come back to a recap of last week's Diva battle royal.
Kelly Kelly is out with Gail Kim, after Kelly eliminated Kim last week in the battle royal. Kelly is in action against Alicia Fox, who has Jillian Hall. It’s announced that it will be Melina v. Fox next week in MSG for the Diva's title. Will it rival Owen v. Bret? I'll go with “no” just to be safe. Match was short and non-offensive. What was the point of the other two at ringside? If you're building to the women's Survivor Series match, at least have them do something.
Ricky Hatton and his kid meet Cena backstage. Cena asked him why he wasn't in action. Hatton mumbled something. Hatton's kid did the "You can't see me" bit. See, WWE is kid friendly. Take that Connecticut politicians! And another recap; this one of the Sheamus-Noble 2 and the post match beat down. They did more in one week on Raw to get Sheamus over than they did in weeks on ECW.
After a pre-match promo, Sheamus picked apart his unnamed English jobber. Through out the match they teased Jamie Noble may retire after last week beating. A power bomb, shades of Mike Awesome, did in the man with no name.
After the break, The Bellas and Ricky Hatton are backstage shilling Hatton's health club and fight promotion. Santino came in for the week’s unfunny backstage segment of the week. Santino was dressed up as a fat boxer, dubbed "Ricky Fatton". Chavo came in and there was some tomfoolery with the dart board in Hatton's office. A boxer v. wrestler match was made, which was fine with Chavo until he learned it was with Ricky Hatton, not Fatton.
Josh Matthews spoke with Miz, who recapped his Survivor Series match, as he captains Team Miz against Team Morrison. Jack Swagger interrupted and claimed that the Miz was in awe of Swagger and their team would make him captain of Team Miz rather than the US Champion.
And we're back with the artist formerly known as Matt Sydal, Evan Bourne, taking on the All American, American, Jack Swagger. The former ECW Champ dominated early with huge take downs and a Swagger Bomb off the second rope. Bourne used his speed and kicks to gain the advantage before eating a big boot from Swagger. As Swagger continued the beat down on Bourne, The Miz made his way to he ring, which was distraction enough for Bourne to take advantage and eventually hit the Shooting Star Press for the victory..
Following the match, The Miz reminded Swagger that he was the captain of Team Miz and awesome. MVP and Mark Henry make their way to the ring, where Henry will take on Randy Orton and MVP hosts the VIP Lounge w/ guest Kofi Kingston.
We see footage of the Nationwide Series race where we see some of the WWE Superstars checking out the action, including the King. Kyle Busch pulled off his 4th win in a row at Texas Motor Speedway but did it this time in the Raw v. Smackdown car.
In the Lounge, MVP gets a cheap pop, while Henry does the intro for the captain of his Survivor Series team, Kofi Kingston. MVP and the WSM announce Kofi at the same time, as if it were two chicks from The Disney Channel announcing The Jonas Brothers at the MTV Music Awards.
MVP put over Kingston for his vandalism work and for sticking up to Orton. While Henry put him over the footage of him pinning Cody Rhodes from last weeks six man.
MVP proposed a toast and popped a bottle of bubbly and Henry shot the cork into the crowd. Doesn't he know he can put an eye out by doing that?
Orton & Legacy interrupt. The security let him through the velvet rope. He must have been on the list. Orton calls Team Kofi a group of street thugs. Henry stole a victory, MVP is a common criminal, and Kofi should be in jail for what he did to Orton's stock car. Rhodes said that MVP might appear to be ballin' but he is surrounded by thugs. Dibiase makes fun of the pleather couches and says he has more money. Orton goes vintage Triple H and gets quasi racist by telling Kofi, Henry, and MVP that the only place that they belong is the hood. Tempers flare, but we go to break before things get out of hand.
We come back to Orton v. Henry, joined in progress. Orton cuts off Henry early and mixes in a Garvin Stomp. Orton busts out his usual headlock, before Henry fights back with some fists, a clothesline, a corner splash, and a series of head butts. Orton went fora sunset flip, but Henry tries to counter with a choke bomb, which Orton countered into a RKO. Post match, Orton slapped Kofi, who returned the favor with a big right to Orton, who bailed and was held back by Rhodes and Dibiase.
Chavo shadow boxes as we head to break.
"Manchester Mexican" Ricky Hatton makes his way to the ring to take on Chavo in what is described as a Mixed Martial Arts match. Hatton fights in a t-shirt; I am guessing he didn't have too much of a camp before this fight.
Hatton offers to touch gloves/fist, but was met with a slap from the former ECW Champ. Chavo bails after some body blows. Take down by Chavo, but Hatton escaped. Chavo went for another take down but Hatton knocked out Chavo after a pretty stiff lookingpunch to the dome.
We run the Survivor Series card. DX and Cena bicker backstage and make some more goofy jokes. They tell Cena that they understand the concept of a Triple Threat Match and one of them will win at the pay per view. Hornswoggle comes out in Cena garb and does the "You Can't See Me" bit" More cheesiness from DX before we find out that Hornswoggle is still obsessed with DX, still has all of their merch and crop chops us out of the segment. JeriShow makes their way to the ring as we head to a break.
We recap last week’s celebrity antics with Ozzy and Sharon. Cena out first to do commentary, then JeriShow, followed up with DX.
Even match up at first, with Cena starting to put over the Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series in a serious tone. He puts over both of his opponents and does a better job of selling the PPV title match on commentary in the first two minutes of the match than theyhave with all of the Hornwoggle segments.
After the break, Jericho and HBK in the ring and we go immediately into a heat on Shawn Michaels. Big Show has his way with HBK for a bit before tagging in Jericho. Cena still putting the match over seriously, suggesting that the time will come that Triple H and HBK will go at it during their match. Big Show back in and goes for a slam, but Shawn slips out who makes the tag to Triple H. The Game quickly goes for a pedigree on Show, who reverses it and soon after nails Helmsley with a giant spear. With HBK distracting the ref, Big Show chokes the Cerebral Assassin. Cena picks The Big Show to win the title match for the World Championship. Triple H tries to come back, but no dice. Show with a bear hug, which leads Jericho to yell to the announce table that the Big Show "is a giant destroyer". The way Cena reacted; it made me think that it was a rib. Jericho tried to go for a bull dog but is caught with a spine buster from Triple H, who makes the luke warm tag to HBK. Inverted atomic drops and fists for Jericho. Michaels hits the Randy Savage-esque elbow from the top. HBK goes for Sweet Chin Music that is blocked. Show goes for the big right hand, but nails Jericho, who is out. The Big Show is taken out by Triple H and Michaels gets the win.
After the match, the ring announcer informs us that the main event for next week is a Triple Threat Tag match featuring the six men involved in the two Triple Threat Matches from Survivor Series: DX v. JeriShow v. John Cena and The Undertaker. The Dead Man makes a rare Raw appearance, which leaves JeriShow and DX in fear, as Cena smiles. We fade to black.
